This package was originally authored by Jacob van Etten. I took over as maintainer in 2023 with the goal of keeping it available on CRAN. While I’ve made some minor performance improvements, I’ve intentionally avoided introducing breaking changes—such as replacing the Raster package dependency with Terra—to preserve backward compatibility and avoid disrupting code that relies on the current Raster-class implementation. Most of my current work in this area is focused on the samc package, which addresses similar types of problems but is better optimized for performance and scalability.
